Hot Tub Cleaning FAQ

Plain explanations of common hot tub and swim spa questions.

Common questions

What owners usually want to know

Open a question to read the answer.

What kinds of spas do you clean?

We work with hot tubs and swim spas, whether outdoor, indoor, residential, rental or shared. Tell Joe about your spa and he will talk through what fits.

How often should a hot tub be cleaned?

It depends on use, climate and how the water is treated. Heavily used or outdoor tubs under trees often need attention more often. Many owners also change the water on a regular cycle, and manufacturer guidance is a good starting point.

Why is my hot tub water cloudy?

Common causes include low sanitizer, a clogged filter, high organic load, hard water or water that has aged. Our hot tub water treatment page explains how these are usually separated.

What is biofilm and can I see it?

Biofilm is a slimy layer of microorganisms that clings to surfaces and the inside of plumbing. You may notice slick surfaces, flakes, odor or water that clouds quickly after treatment. Our biofilm removal page has more detail.

Do I need a drain and refill or just a cleaning?

If the tub is mostly clean and the water is young, cleaning and balancing may be enough. If water is old, foamy or hard to keep clear, a refill is often more sensible. Joe can talk through which fits.

Can you repair a spa that is not working properly?

Yes. Repair is the core of our work, including heaters, pumps, jets, control panels and leaks, on nearly every hot tub and swim spa brand.
